HiGH&LOW: THE MOVIE 2 - END OF SKY Brings New Enemies Into The Arena In The First Official Trailer

Image
Determine what you may with the currently-active HIGH&LOW series and film saga. Following its Japan debut in late 2015 and its renewal along with the feature films that came after, it's clear that the folks at Shochiku and at Japanese talent agency LDH, inc. had something fresh on its hands when initial trailers and posters popped up.
Boasting some major big time stuntwork and high-caliber action to accomodate the drama on the big and small screens, HiGH&LOW ramped up its case setting up camp in the town of Mugen, now splintered between five deadly gangs and with two mysterious pot-stirrers getting in the mix with the gang collective now known as S.W.O.R.D.. The film, and its prequel, HiGH&LOW: The Red Rain, have only ever been made available in Japan as with the rest of its IP and one sure hopes that will change for Westerners avidly following the fandom about this.
Why so? Well the first of a two-film finale now brings us a look at the trailer for HIGH&LOW: THE MOV…

Director David Leitch is already hitting the pavement with the current production of the sequel for R-rated action-packed Marvel thrillride, Deadpool. Alas, if you know Leitch and/or unless you've been tuning in to the current campaign for his solo debut at the helm, Atomic Blonde, you already get an idea of the metric by which you can guess just how fun this film looks like it will be.
Oscar® winner Charlize Theron explodes into summer in Atomic Blonde, a breakneck action-thriller that follows MI6’s most lethal assassin through a ticking time bomb of a city simmering with revolution and double-crossing hives of traitors. The crown jewel of Her Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service, Agent Lorraine Broughton (Theron) is equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission.  Sent alone into Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (Ja…

Tell Your Cluster! SENSE8 Is Coming Back With A Two-Hour Finale In 2018

Image
The Wachowskis and J. Michael Straczynski created and launched something both beautiful and enthralling with the award-winning sci-fi action series, Sense8. Telling of a cluster of 8 people all born on the same exact date and of the same age with a unique DNA, the story spanned globally into the lives of these eight people who discovered a sudden ability to psychically connect and ultimately come to the aid of one another in times of need as an evil doctor conspired to hunt them down and kill them.
The show brought two great, eclectic, energizing seasons ripe with action and drama weighing equally on themes of love, LGBT pride and friendship. Season two kicked off in April and continued building on its story concepts by adding and exploring more on the "Sense8" phenomena with the additions of new characters, and a cliffhanger finale that promised something major for a potential third season...
...Until Netflix announced its cancellation at the start of June with the company…

ARMED RESPONSE: Wesley Snipes Charges Into The Unknown In The Official Trailer

Image
Wesley Snipes is back in the limelight this week with a first trailer for director John Stockwell's latest, Armed Response. It's nothing fancy but it looks solidly acted and performed up to par as a watchable feat from the auspices ot WWE Studios.

JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE Transports You Too An All-Too Familiar Story In The First Trailer

Image
To be honest, I didn't care too much for the first Jumanji installment and I really have no huge interest invested in the sequel, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle. It does look pretty epic, cheesy and silly which means it will probably be a lot of fun for fans following all things Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. I might even rent this one as it looks like a rad two-hour time-waster. In the brand new adventure Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the tables are turned as four teenagers in detention are sucked into the world of Jumanji. When they discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game’s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji–Jumanji plays you. They’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they’ll be stuck in the game forever... I think I remember this movie... it …

BOYKA: UNDISPUTED 4 Comes Home On August 1

Image
Todor Chapkanov is the last person I think anyone would have expected to be attached to any of the Undisputed films following up from director Isaac Florentine's work in recent memory. That being said, the trailers that have been circling online and early reviews of the new movie, Boyka: Undisputed 4, have been nothing short of approving following its out-of-phase release in Sweden and subsequent release in France this year. Well, North America is next on the rollout front and we have a brief new trailer from Universal Pictures to mark the occassion. The high-octane action series Undisputed is back with BOYKA: UNDISPUTED 4. Scott Adkins is Boyka, the most complete fighter in the world, a man looking for his shot to fight for a championship belt. THE HIT LIST: June 26, 2017

Image
Well guys, my hiatus was a brief but fair one. It was a necessary breather to help recoup from the workload and best part about all this is that people are still creating!

So yeah, that's a nice thing to come back to. That's what The Hit List is for and I've found (and have also been sent) some GREAT stuff to share this week. It's also a lot to unpack so without further ado, the stunt reels are up first as always and we begin with Amy Sturdivant's most recent Vimeo upload. I meant to share hers before going on break but YouTube parameters were a factor and Vimeo was the only option left. So, better late than never, and with a demo reel as substantive as this being all the more reason worth sharing.
Following that is a playlist ripe with awesome stunt and action demos by Francis Limoges, Drew Reade, Gaby Rodriguez, Jennifer Badger, Gene Freeman, David Van Tassell, Domenica Rossi, Brytni Lavender, and stunt/fight coordinator reels by Airon Armstrong and Roberto Lopez

THE FOREIGNER: Jackie Chan Menaces With A Vengeance In The First Official Trailer

Image
Taking a rare pivot from the usual family-friendly tone of a Jackie Chan film, the mood can be both seen and felt in the official teaser trailer for upcoming action thriller, The Foreigner. Casino Royale helmer Martin Campbell is certainly tapping into the dark and gritty millieu here, and it's an appropriate fit for a brooding revenge film that has the honorary Oscar-winning action star leading the cast.
The Foreigner takes its cues from Stephen Leather's 1992 novel and with none other than Chan starring as a London restaurant owner who reverts to his former skillset accrued in his dark past when the justice system fails him in an IRA terrorist attack that kills his daughter. Chan stars opposite Pierce Brosnan in their first appearance together on screen with Liu Tao and Katie Leung also starring.
The Foreigner will release throughout Asia in September with a U.S. release in tow the following October. Watch the new trailer below!

AJIN: DEMI HUMAN: Death, Life And Epic Creature Battles Are A Repeat Process In The First Official Trailer For The Live-Action Adaptation

Image
It's understandable that one forgets things. Amid all the film festival hype I damn near forgot that a live-action adaptation of Sakurai Gamon's hit manga, Ajin: Demi Human was on the way which makes me wonder how come it's not heading to festivals this year, unless I'm wrong.
If not, I reckon part of this is due to the amount of work being put into the spectacular action sequences and immersive visuals with Bayside Shakedown film series and Shaolin Girl helmer Motohiro Katsuyuki at the helm. There wasn't a lot of footage in the previous teaser to showcase it much but there was just enough to garner some much-deserved interest and as of Sunday, to say the least, the official trailer guarantees the promise being offered here in a much more assuring fashion.
The film opens in Japan on September 30 and much to the delight of fans of both the manga, the anime series and films, as well as Rurouni Kenshin star Satoh Takeru. He leads the cast of the film as Nagai Kei, a …

Acclaimating amply to the Asian aesthetic is noted Hollywood director Renny Harlin since relocating to Beijing, China in the last few years. With projects like Skiptrace and the recent production of Legend Of The Ancient Sword under his belt, Harlin is now readying his third Chinese-language film, The Hanging Coffin.

Plot details are unclear while Harlin will direct from a script by The Shallows scribe Tony Jaswinski which will boast an "action adventure-cum-thriller featuring extreme sports, tomb raiding and mutant creatures" according to THR.

THE FOREIGNER Emerges In The First Official U.S. Poster

Image
Honorary Oscar winner Jackie Chan is in Shanghai stirring a ruckus for attendees and fellow stars at the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival. More news on this will rollout eventually and there will be plenty to sift over amid the buzz for Chan and his upcoming titles, and the same goes for the Fall release of the new thriller, The Foreigner, which is getting an October 13 release from STX.
The film takes its cues from Stephen Leather's novel, The Chinaman and is adapted for the screen by David Marconi with Casino Royale helmer Martin Campbell directing. Chan is joined by Pierce Brosnan, Liu Tao and Katie Leung for the story of a South London restaurant owner who reverts to the lethal skillset built in his dark past, paving his own way for vengeance after an IRA terrorist attack that kills his family and the justice system fails him.

Disney's HAN SOLO Spin-Off Replaces Its Directors With Ron Howard

Image
It's been an eventful week for the Star Wars/Han Solo spin-off. The departure of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller due to their creative fallout with writer and executive producer Lawrence Kasdan has been a severely upsetting development for a lot of fans who might be keen on the film's delivery aside from any previous measure of skepticism.

Production remains on hiatus until July 10 as the studio tries to quell the upheaval and the first step they've now taken is finding a replacement, now confirmed with the attachment of In The Heart Of The Sea helmer Ron Howard. The film has Alden Ehrenreich starring in the title role for an origin narrative with Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke and Thandie Newton starring.

Howard's attachment does have a few things going for it, with his status as an Oscar-winning director with credits such as Apollo 13 and A Beautiful Mind, as well as his history with Lucasfilm patriarch George Lucas on projects su…

BATTLESHIP ISLAND: Catch The Latest Trailer And Poster For Ryoo Seung-Wan's Wartime Escape Thriller

Image
For all intents and purposes, it's worth reminding not to forget about director Ryoo Seung-Wan's latest, Battleship Island. Thus, I'm inclined to share the most recent trailer for the film which opens in Korea on June 30 as it boasts a massively entertaining wartime epic from a fine director and cast.
That roster is led by actors Hwang Jung-Min, So Ji-Sub and Song Joong-Ki as survivors among hundreds of others held prisoner and forced into manual slave labor on Hashima Island by the Japanese during World War II. The film is already host to over a hundred territories for its roll out including my backyard here in North America so definitely look for this one from your region's distributor following its South Korean open in early July.
You could literally accredit Ryoo for any of his films leading up to this apart from the 2015 action comedy, Veteran, but I suspect Battleship Island will only elongate that list on an apples-to-apples basis. And his are some damn good a…

Kevin Costner And Woody Harrelson In Talks For Netflix Bonnie & Clyde Crime Drama, HIGHWAYMAN

Image
John Lee Hancock (The Founder, Saving Mr. Banks, The Blind Side) will direct Highwayman in a deal long in the works that now sees the lingering crime drama in development at its new home at Netflix. The project was initially brewing at Universal Pictures for four years with a script by John Fusco that has since been redone by Hancock.
The film, according to Deadline, is the long-awaited feature-length treatment of the Depression Era story told from the angle of Frank Hamer and Manny Gault as they led a posse of commissioned lawmen to bring an end to the infamous and deadly crime spree led by Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in the 1930s. Actors Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson are in early talks to star in the respective roles of Hamer and Gault, the former known as a legendary Texas Ranger who survived 53 gunfights and killed 100 people.
Given the narrative, it's noticeably familiar-sounding ground for Costner who led the cast opposite Robert DeNiro's Al Capone in Brian De P…

Action Drama AMERICAN FIGHTER Taps Shaun Piccinino To Direct For ESX

Image
Acclaimed director and film multi-hyphenate Shaun Piccinino is set to direct American Fighter for ESX Entertainment. The film is a sequel to last year's American Wrestler: The Wizard which starred actor George Kosturos in the 1980-set tale of a young Iranian teen transplanted into a new town where he's forced to face adversity from all angles after joining the high school wrestling team.
Kosturos is returning to the sequel according to a new report from Variety which also lists Tommy Flanagan, Bryan Craig, Sean Patrick Flanery and Parviz Sayyad attached to star. Forrest Lucas, Ali Afshar, Christina Moore and Anna Zielinski are producing the film with a story by Afshar that now centers on a desperate teen who builds character between opponents upon competing in the underground fight circuit to save his dying mother. “Continuing down the line of a ‘Rocky’ meets ‘Karate Kid’ story, this new ‘American Wrestler’ movie remains a very heartfelt project for me,” Afshar said. “The res…

GINTAMA: THE MITSUBA ARC: A Tale Of Brotherly Love, Rivalry And Loyalty In The First Trailer For The Web Drama Spin-Off

The end is almost nigh for the wait until Fukuda Yuichi's release of the new movie, Gintama, inspired by the pages of Sorachi Hideaki's popular manga and subsequent anime series. The film is readying for a world premiere at Fantasia Fest next month followed by another screening in Bucheon later this year while Japan audiences gear up for a July 14 release with a live-action take on the Benizakura Arc.

Having had a stellar festival run throughout Asia, Europe and the U.S. with last year's Fantastic Fest premiere, director Shimomura Yuji's new film, Re:Born, has seen quite the journey to its praise. The same can amply be applied to the resurgence of its star, actor Sakaguchi Tak who, given personal career circumstances, essentially had to keep off radar and thankfully, that dry patch is now over and done.

This led to the question persisting as the film began circulating in the press as the promotional tour was under way leaving any and all wondering just when this would happen.
On Tuesday, Variety posted an interview with Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, the two men helping to shephed the DC Universe in its current evolution, wherein among the questions were the following two: Will Patty Jenkins be back to direct the sequel to “Wonder Woman”? Johns: Patty and I are writing the treatment right now.
