Period Martial Arts Epic, TATARA SAMURAI, Opens In North America On June 2. Watch The Trailer!

Folks in North America looking forward to more musings from the far East needn't look further than writer and director Nishikori Yoshinari's new movie, Tatara Samurai. The film, which opens in Japan on May 20, is riding a wave of purely awesome and upworthy press following festival screenings and award wins throughout the globe, and with a raft of events already incurred in the states.

The film most recently made waves at the Ozark Foothills Film Fest in Arkansas last month and will now take to crowds at the Egyptian Theater next week to promote its official nationwide release on June 2. Eleven Arts has provided onlookers with the most recent U.S. trailer highlighting the martial arts action and drama which you can view below along with some plush new artwork, ripe with all the essentials, laurels and so on.
Gosuke, born in Tatara Village (famous for its steel), has spent his youth being groomed to become the next Murage (Master Blacksmith). After vicious raids on his village, Gosuke leaves his home behind to become a samurai instead. On the way, Gosuke meets Yohei, who invites him to join the honored Oda Army. Gosuke, terrified during his first real battle, deserts the army and returns home.
Back in Tatara, Gosuke meets again with Yohei, who convinces him that swords are relics of the past, and that they must utilize guns, in order to survive the raids. Shinpei, Gosuke’s childhood friend, warns him against guns and his suspicions of Yohei's true motives, only to be branded as a traitor.
Shortly after, Shinnosuke, the leader of the region, is shot by Yohei in cold blood, leaving Gosuke reeling. After all the destruction, Gosuke realizes that the true essence of a samurai – honor and compassion – was within him all along, and that as Murage he could do more for Tatara than he ever could by wielding a weapon.
Starring are Sho Aoyagi, Naoki Kobayashi, Akira, Tomoko Tabata, Anna Ishii and Masahiko Tsugawa. Watch the official new trailer in the player below!
