FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST Opens The Gates To A UK Limited Blu-Ray Release!

Much to the delight of anyone fond of Arakawa Hiromu's 2001 manga, Fullmetal Alchemist, some pretty big things are about to happen within the next few years. One of those includes a live-action from Warner Bros. Japan as production begins this month for a 2017 release.

Judging by what we've seen in the latest trailers and featurettes for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows, there's no question that Paramount, Platinum Dunes and Nickelodeon upped the ante some. I'm pretty sure I'll be checking it out while I'm not too sure when considering my schedule, but the studio is making it available for a one-week IMAX engagement starting at 5:00pm showings on June 2, and so if you're able to attend a  true IMAX theaters, there's no doubt you'll be seeing plenty of Turtle, Shredder and mutant action to get your money's worth.

Jaby Koay Talks Khan, Stunts And Gunplay In EK THA TIGER (2012)

I've yet to fully immerse myself in Bollywood action aside from recently becoming a fan of Hrithik Roshan circa 2014 with the Knight & Day remake, Bang Bang!. However, it still fascinates me as much as almost anyone keen on movies, specifically action films and even moreso alongside folks like Anthony Alba, who has been galvanizing his own audience as YouTube reaction personality, Jaby Koay.

THE HIT LIST - May 30, 2016

Having written this on the day of, I'm just glad that my weekend didn't completely burn me out. Needless to say, I had my work cut out for me but I'm glad to have managed to squeeze in today's playlists loaded with great stunt and fight work from today's inspired action cinema creatives.

Helfi Kardit's TEN: THE SECRET MISSION Lands A Full Trailer

The Rock Will Tackle DOC SAVAGE For Sony

I'm pretty glad that The Nice Guys helmer Shane Black's idea of killing off Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon 2 never came to fruition. Those are just my two cents on the matter while nowadays fans are looking forward to what he has coming up for his take on Predator for Fox, needless to say, and so am I.

Action Throwback: THE BIG HIT (1998)

TriStar Pictures
Once upon a time, Hong Kong and Hollywood were the best of friends... HK was the poor but spunky upstart and Hollywood was the rich, aloof asshole who'd taken a shine to its charms. For about half a decade, the two would collaborate in ways that would change the action genre forever. In the early days, this meant trying to bolt Hong Kong action scenes onto standard, low-brow Hollywood action tropes; the results may not have been earth-shattering, but damn were they entertaining... And The Big Hit may have been one of the best (and strangest) of the bunch.

A Case For Better Action Movies - VIGILANTE DIARIES (2016)

It took me a few viewings on a Sunday to get through director Christian Sesma's new movie, Vigilante Diaries, and mainly due to my job (Hashtag #WhatsAWeekend?). This, and the fact my online screener copy kept freezing and I had to go through a series of stops-and-starts to make it through both viewings. But, that's neither here nor there - whereas the core of this discussion lies mainly in the overall fascination behind turning an underfunded webseries into a sprawling action film with sequel potential. This was the case in 2013 when Chill.com was a still a thing, and Vigilante Diaries landed with two episodes in an all-exclusive effort to earn the support of donors willing to help bring thrilling action and mature, graphic novel-style storytelling to a series format.

The Rock Gets A New Look In Latest FAST 8 Photo

If there's one thing that the Fast And Furious franchise has achieved in its 15-year history, it is its ability to take a seemingly rigid character or philosophy, embrace it and mold it into an evolution of itself that works in the most interesting of ways. That especially seems to be an underlying theme when it comes to the lawmakers and lawbreakers, namely actor Paul Walker at the time in the role of undercover officer Brian O'Connor on a mission to bring lead actor Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto to justice.

Rodriguez's ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL Casts Rosa Salazar To Star

Late last year saw news that James Cameron and Lightstorm partner Jon Landau would produce an adaptation of Kishiro Yukito's hit manga, Alita: Battle Angel, with Robert Rodriguez directing. Since then, the film had not been greenlit while an actress was still being sought after, including Maika Monroe, Disney Channel favorite Zendaya, and Rosa Salazar.

Tom Hiddleston In "Advanced Talks" To Play 007

Actor Daniel Craig has had his fill as superagent James Bond, a fact known long before the release of his latest and final stint in the title role of longstanding 007 franchise, Sam Mendes's Spectre. Funny enough, it's something that people have still speculated over as if it were mere fantasy - maybe some are in denial. Who knows?

The Rock Will Be At The Wrong Place At The Wrong Time In China-Set Action Thriller, SKYSCRAPER

Actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is keeping himself busier and busier as the days go by. He's currently onto his reprisal for Fast 8 after wrapping the newly adapted feature iteration of the hit TV show, Baywatch, and he's got a batch of titles with his name attached, including a remake of Big Trouble In Little China, and the recently-announcent forward movement of a cinematic universe to build from his upcoming role in The Janson Directive.

HARDCORE HENRY Comes Home This July From Universal

I suppose I was never going to see this on the big screen. Thankfully I got myself a new TV that performs superbly and a nice little viewing of Hardcore Henry should do me some wonders this summer. The film has been a critical hit in the past year among cinephiles and those fond of commercialized first-person storytelling as of late and time will tell just exactly what lies next from the mind of Ilya Naishuller.

Pre-Order Mike Moeller's Martial Arts Smash, ONE MILLION K(L)ICKS Today!

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson was entering the peak of his career in the late 80's by the time he started pursuing TV and film. He's had his moments since then, although nowadays with him no longer in the ring, clearly the obvious choice would be to establish himself more in entertainment, most prolifically as of late as he's done with Mike Tyson Mysteries, The Hangover comedy franchise, Algerian actioner Gates Of The Sun and Wilson Yip's latest big Donnie Yen sell, Ip Man 3.

Fukushima Rila Joins GHOST IN THE SHELL

It's been more than a month since the official announcement of production in New Zealand for the forthcoming manga adaptation, Ghost In The Shell. The conversation surrounding it has been immensely heated regarding the topic of diversity in Hollywood and the catalyst, of course, is the casting of actress Scarlett Johansson in the lead role based on Shirow Masamune's classic manga.

MIRROR'S EDGE Is Getting A Live-Action Television Series!

It's been eight years since the hit game, Mirror's Edge, took off for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 from Electronic Arts. Affleck's THE ACCOUNTANT Gets A New Poster

Warrior helmer Gavin O'Connor's newest for Warner Bros., The Accountant, has something notably going for itself with actor Ben Affleck starring in the title role. With his proclivity toward action stardom as of late, he's the new face of Batman which is definitely something that ought keep the doors open for the actor in this particular genre, especially with this latest endeavor from writer Bill Dubuque.

THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS Gets A Commemorative Theatrical Re-Release On June 22

Studio money grab or not, this one is not without its share of heart and soul. Often described as Point Break on wheels, director Rob Cohen's fantastical street racing crime thriller, The Fast And The Furious was a $207 million dollar hit, and consequently, the subject of a now sprawling franchise with tie-in shortfilms and several home-bound re-releases celebrating the film's long-running success.

Warner Bros. Confirms Live-Action FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST For 2017, Cast Details

Earlier this year I made it my goal to brush up on as much anime as possible what with all I've been missing since life got a little busier in the past decade. Recent viewings have fortunately included a great deal of series and films, including both animated serial versions adapting Arakawa Hiromu's 2001-2010 manga publication, Fullmetal Alchemist, which, as of March, has officially been in development with director Sori Fumihiko at the helm.

Check Out Actor Silvio Simac In Full Costume As M. BISON For STREET FIGHTER: RESURRECTION

The most recent broadcasting of director Joey Ansah's latest Capcom/Machinima venture, Street Fighter: Resurrection, has been an exciting experience, though not so much for fans and folks living outside of the U.S., the reach of Verizon's mobile content viewing app, Go90. For this, it's understandable why it feels discouraging to some measure, but remember - and I've emphasized this before - that this was strictly done on behalf of Machinima's content output deal with Verizon and not Ansah or the production itself.

Chan Is All Tied-Up In New Posters For SKIPTRACE

The most recent Chinese trailer seen above for director Renny Harlin's latest, Skiptrace, began going viral several weeks ago despite the last several seconds of pertinent footage being cut. That footage you will get to see in the trailer above which outlines some of lead actor and action star Jackie Chan's memorable titles, including Police Story and CZ12.

SULTAN Rebounds In The New Official Trailer

Director Ali Abbas Zafar's newest, Sultan, appears more heavy handed on drama as much of an underdog tale as it is, but its adherance toward MMA and wrestling enthusiasts should be pleasing.  Actor Salman Khan is back on the screen next to actress Anushka Sharma and a theatrical release is slated for this Eid on July 6 and after all said and done, we now get a full trailer after two character teasers earlier this year introducing us to both lead casting members in their wrestling element.

REVIEW: Rise Of The Legend (2016) - “...I CANNOT DIE.”

Wong Fei-hung has been the subject of over one hundred films and television series, and you’d be forgiven for assuming the he was a fictional character for the way his story, a historical rubric, has been so romantically portrayed. Notable martial arts film stars including Sammo Hung and Jet Li have appeared as Fei-hung onscreen, the former for a brief turn in 2004’s Around The World In 80 Days and the latter in the Once Upon A Time in China series (1991). The 1993 film Iron Monkey featured Angie Tsang as a young Wong Fei-hung, a folk hero who, if you know your wuxia history, will grow up to become Jackie Chan in Drunken Master (1978). Kwan Tak-hing would play him the following year in Magnificent Butcher, and again in 76 other films – making a career of it.

THE HIT LIST - May 23, 2016

Greetings everyone, and welcome back to another installation of The Hit List. We're light on the action a bit but I did find plenty to share, including one video that aired online last Summer, and it's one that I would have wanted to share had I caught it at the time that I think you will all love.

KICKBOXER: RETALIATION Now Filming, UFC's Paige VanZant Cast

Until otherwise noted, August 19 is the expected release date of director John Stockwell's Kickboxer: Vengeance from RLJ Entertainment. In the meantime, you can still count on there being a sequel, Kickboxer: Retaliation, following its announcement earlier this year with actor and martial artist Alain Moussi returning to star following his recent online run in the currently U.S.-exclusive digital series, Street Fighter: Resurrection.

TOMBOY, A REVENGER'S TALE Lands At Saban For U.S. Release

Actress Michelle Rodriguez is still a leading mainstay in Fast And Furious franchise having just begun her return for the production of F. Gary Gray's Fast 8. In the meantime, her prospects beyond Universal Pictures's road-thriller franchise are also coming to fruition courtesy of 48 Hours and Bullet To The Head helmer Walter Hill's newest, Tomboy, A Revenger's Tale.

EXCLUSIVE: Hitman Action Horror, THE INTERMEDIATE, Casts Kevin Lukata, Begins Filming Later This Year

Filmmaker Xavier Q. Kantz is someone who I'm more than humbled to have in my own film viewing repetoire. My earliest experience was his 2002 direct-to-video sophmore actioner, Love And A Bullet featuring Naughty By Nature's own, actor Anthony "Treach" Criss. To say the least, it wasn't a perfect film but it's a great headliner to get some worthy insight into a director's vision for action, and while a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fan, the addition of Walter Emmanuel Jones in an R-rated actioner for a change, certainly drew my interest.

Shout Factory To Release French Crime Remake, RABID DOGS Next Month

Éric Hannezo's directorial debut, Rabid Dogs, has a terrific premise for all one could say about remakes and such. This one has its fair share of mixed reviews to highlight this more slick and stylish iteration compared to its 1974 predecessor, but it should undoubtedly help keep the first time helmer on the map for further consideration.

Cameras Begin Rolling For Warner Bros.'s DUNKIRK For 2017

2016 will be a year for quite a few notable, big scale World War II movies, and Warner Bros. has indeed stepped into the fray with its own offering for the new action thriller, Dunkirk. The film is finally underway with locations planned in U.S. and throughout Europe with a long-hyped release date stamped for July 21, 2017, and with nothing short of a rewarding cast lined up led by the new face of all things Mad Max himself, The Revenant co-star, actor Tom Hardy in his latest pairing with Nolan since Inception (2010) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012).

STILL EVOLVING, STILL FLUNG: An Interview With Malay Kim

Welp, here we are again! My journey into the lives and aspirations of folks within the online action and independent film community continues, and in somewhat of a timely fashion with the latest release of director Kellie Madison's newest shortfilm, The Gate. The project is the latest move for its helmer toward a feature film well on the way, and, incidentally, it's also the latest notch on the belt of success for one of the hardest working people I've ever seen perform in independent, often zero-budgeted filmmaking.

That person, multifaceted martial artist and filmmaker Malay Kim, comes from one of America's most prominent and active film and stunt fighting companies to date, the EMC Monkeys. Many may know them from their roots on MySpace (when that was a thing), as well as various stage performances, comic-con events, and even YouTube where they have since been prospering with a steadily growing audience of their own through a number of fantastic online action shorts, including a Crows Zero-inspired fan film which has over a million views, their 2012 collaboration with the Pwnisher channel for a live-action Sleeping Dogs fan film with well over four million views, and the recent VoD and DVD/Blu-Ray releases of the Z-Team-produced hit feature, Die Fighting.

Having bared witness to his tenacity on screen, and suggestively off as well, I, for one, share hopes for a career to flourish in his direction and if the reel posted above for you isn't exemplary enough in that regard, there's a whole channel you can rest your eyes on by clicking the video through to their YouTube portal. Kim's screenfighting prowess, filmmaking and fight choreography comprehension is as sharp as any producer would want, and should the right producer and company come along to help Kim shine brighter, it would only benefit everyone and I can't emphasize this enough.

For this, I managed to get a few words in with Kim a few days ago for an e-mail interview. I love his team and the work they put out, and the fact that I've been following these folks off and on for close to a decade now only makes it clearer that in my current online pastime, anothee interview with one of the EMC Monkeys would only be right at this juncture. To add though, it certainly feels good to get a word in with people like Kim. Interviews are difficult to achieve at times and for a number of reasons, so it's always encouraging, especially in this instance.

I like that I can make acquaintances with folks like Kim and engage in simple chit-chat from time to time, and more importantly, being someone who writes and campaigns for martial arts movies on a daily basis, I like what Kim brings to the table and enjoy getting to know him through his craft. The EMC Monkeys have endured the test of time and continue to be relevant in an era where even though the martial arts cinema audience is somewhat smaller since the last few decades, it still reigns in its prominence on an international level.

For all of their efforts and more, genre is far from dead, and people especially like Kim are worth acknowledging in the wake of this fact with all of the mostly uncompensated hard work he puts in. Fight choreography and stunt work are a grueling field, and Kim, making Long Beach as proud as ever, is undeniably one whose investments in this field are worth highlighting. Given my platform, I'm proud to help achieve exactly that in my newest interview this week with the one and only, Malay Kim.

Film Combat Syndicate: Thanks for getting back to me for this interview Malay! How has your year been so far?
Malay Kim: So far, it's had its ups and downs. But right now it seems to be going back up.

Soi Cheang Heads To The KINGDOM OF WOMEN For THE MONKEY KING 3, Fourth In The Works

Director Soi Cheang is hard at work producing Jonathan Li's directorial debut, The Brink with lead actor Max Zhang. In the meantime, Cheang's prominence at the box office having directed both successful installments of The Monkey King in 2014 with Donnie Yen and Aaron Kwok just this year will soon land him back in the director's chair for a third film as of reports circulating Chinese media this month.

Right about now you've probably made up your decision on whether or not you'll see the upcoming sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows. It's been one of the more dialogue-inspiring films in the last few years with the lines drawn between moviegoers who are either for or against remakes and the conversation otherwise continues, though certainly in favor of the production for that matter.

FRUIT NINJA Is Heading For The Big Screen

I've never played Fruit Ninja until this weekend. I played it for about two minutes before getting completely sucked in, and so with the new Angry Birds Movie taking hold in theaters this summer, I can see why Hollywood is keen on turning to mobile games for filmic source material. So, yes, a Fruit Ninja movie is happening at the behest of Vinson Films in partnership with the game's developer, Halfbrick Studios for a live-action family comedy.

Watch The Spectacular New Trailer For STAR TREK BEYOND

Director Justin Lin is out and about this year ahead of the July 22 release of his newest film, Star Trek: Beyond. Following a special fan event in Los Angeles on Friday night, a new trailer was shown in the wake of a first trailer that debuted back in December, much to the chagrin of co-star Simon Pegg at the time. And indeed, given what we see now, he isn't wholly wrong.

Godzilla 1985 FINALLY hits DVD and Blu Ray!!!

The time is now....
The introduction of DVD heralded a golden age of cinematic curiosities finding their way into American video stores; from an uncut, special edition release of Cannibal Holocaust to widescreen editions of Sonny Chiba classics, it was like ten years of Christmas morning for cult movie fans.

Charlize Theron Flaunts Her Arsenal In A New Still From FAST 8

Some women collect shoes. And then you have Charlize Theron here sporting her own collection of sorts as per her latest casting as villain, Cipher, in the new movie, Fast 8 as seen in the new photo below.

Marvel Confirms Urban, Goldblum For THOR: RAGNAROK

The omission of Thor from the roster of the Russos' Captain America: Civil War surely leaves some curious as to what happened to the Asgaardian protector of Earth. Rest assured, that will all be explored when Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok releases next year, and with director Taika Waititi at the helm.

I'm not at all familiar with director Daniel Zirilli's repetoire, but I'm always keen on a filmmaker's endeavors when it comes to tapping into martial arts stunt talent. So goes his latest venture with stuntman, filmmaker and producer, actor Dean Alexandrou who caught my attention as early as 2013 with his impressive 2010 award-winning shortfilm, Dohard. It's little moments like this that keep me on the edge of my seat and wanting more, and just a few years later, we now have his latest pairing with Zirilli for the new thriller, Time Rush, showcasing an otherwise worthy experiment in independent film with some terrific moments...as well as some not-so-terrific ones.

It's Bank Robber VS Serial Killer In The Trailer For THE LAST HEIST

Director Mike Mendez has a few promising feats coming out this year. First on the table is the most recent trailer for Dolph Lundgren action horror, Don't Kill It, which looks terrific, and that one is currently awaiting a release date.

Opinion (NSFW): GHOSTBUSTERS Gets A New Trailer, Fans Get Stupid. This Needs To Stop.

Indeed and without fail, there are a few films that have definitively been the most divisive this year among film fans. I won't go into detail about one of them and will likely save that update for another time, but the most relevant one coincides with this week's official second trailer debut of Paul Feig's Ghostbusters which opens on July 15.

Anchor Bay Announces Epic Action Thriller, VIGILANTE DIARIES For Theatrical Release Next Month!

It's probably the best news in the world at this point for all the energy I've put into following the work of filmmaker Christian Sesma. Though my timing was off between the debut of my blog and Sesma's then-efforts toward the action-packed hyper violent webseries, Vigilante Diaries, I pretty much came just in time to watch and observe with the rest of the crowd in the last several years as the maverick filmmaker evolved the project from its embryonic status as an online product to a fully fledged feature film.

THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR Brings The Anarchy To The Hill In The Newest Trailer

The surprise hit that was writer and director James DeMonaco's The Purge, has taken quite an authentic and rewarding journey in the last four years. From contained survival thriller to urban action flick, the newly-formed trilogy now immerses itself into a world all its own with a rich, suspenseful story that currently pits leading man Frank Grillo front and center as our protagonist following his stellar performance as a broken father seeking vengeance in The Purge: Anarchy in 2014.

Catch The View In The New ASSASSIN'S CREED Poster

Last week's trailer for Justin Kurzel's adaptation of the hit game franchise, Assassin's Creed, drew a small but noticeable measure of criticism from fans who have since taken a liking to an unofficial version of the trailer which you can check out here. Personally I still think it's missing something, but I won't linger here with at least seven more months left until December when the film releases.

General MacArthur On Deck! Watch The New Teaser For OPERATION CHROMITE!

Expect more to come from actor Liam Nesson between now and next year, continuing onward for his latest congregation with several Korean A-listers, including Lee Jung-Jae and Lee Beom-Soo, and actress Jin Se-Yun. For this, we get a new teaser sampling our cast for director John H. Lee's new Korean War epic, Operation Chromite, which focuses on the secret 24-hour X-ray mission during the Korean War in 1950.

Universal's THE JANSON DIRECTIVE Will Kick Off A Robert Ludlum-based Cinematic Universe

Director Paul Greengrass's Jason Bourne is not too far off from its theatrical release on July 29, which could be all the more better timing with news now officially being made clear on Universal Pictures's newest efforts toward another movieverse. The one question will encompass that of the millieu established in late author Robert Ludlum's posthumously published 2002 novel, The Janson Directive, which took off with headlines in the summer of 2014 before being confirmed the following Fall with actor Dwayne Johnson and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman attached.

TRAINING DAY Presents A Riveting New Trailer For The CBS Series

Perhaps there is some light at the end of the seeming long and unending tunnel comprised of failed attempts to transition dated film content to contemporary serial programming. For this instance, Fox's latest trailer for Lethal Weapon doesn't really give me much to feel inspired over, and hasn't been that long since CBS handed down its Supergirl series over to the CW.

Franco, Cheung's FUTURE WORLD Adds Jovovich, Lewis Jr. And More

Wanna see actor James Franco play a futuristic drug lord? Well now your chance is coming with the production of his latest indie sci-fi, Future World from Dark Rabbit Productions.

Rangers Unite To Kick Ass In Darker, Moodier, Action-Packed Thriller, THE ORDER

The past week or more have drawn a bit of uproar over a conspicuous looking promotional image in the form of a triangular glyph. That image has been popping up on various respective fan pages of veteran cast members of the various seasons of Ameritoku hit series, Power Rangers, whilst their admins have all but denied any relation between the two.

24: LEGACY Sees Corey Hawkins Tackle Global Espionage In The New Series Trailer

The prospects of a new take on the hit series, 24, now come to a fold with the start of a new adventure. Actor Corey Hawkins continues his momentum following his recent big screen success in Universal Pictures's Straight Outta Compton, and now he's seuging into television with the serial follow-up, 24: Legacy.
