Home Invasion Thriller, DON'T BREATHE, Releases This August From Sony

Fallout from SXSW appears to be benefitting filmmaker Fede Alvarez some with feedback circulating on his latest premiere, Don't Breathe. Screencrush's own observation lends a notable comparison for Stephen Lang's character to that of Rutger Hauer in the 1989 thriller, Blind Fury, among others, which caught my eye in tracking this particular title, not being able to attend SXSW and all.

That said, I'm intrigued by this movie already and its latest poster makes it even more official. Sony Pictures is releasing the film in August and they have more details in Tuesday's announcement just beneath.

LOS ANGELES, March 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Pictures, in association with Ghost House Pictures, announced the title today for their upcoming (previously untitled) Fede Alvarez thriller: DON'T BREATHE. The film had its world premiere at SXSW in Austin over the weekend to a packed house as part of the Midnighters series at the festival, where it was received with frenzied, positive buzz from critics and festivalgoers. The movie will open in theaters nationwide on August 26th.

Critics at SXSW were unanimous in their praise for the film. Perri Nemiroff at Collider.com called it "a masterful combination of suspense and violence that'll have you squirming in your seat and enjoying every minute of it," while Eric Vespe at Ain't It Cool News said it was "a tense Hitchockian thriller."

In the terrifying thriller DON'T BREATHE, a group of friends break into the house of a wealthy blind man, thinking they'll get away with the perfect heist. They're wrong.

DON'T BREATHE stars Jane Levy (EVIL DEAD), Dylan Minnette (GOOSEBUMPS), Daniel Zovatto (IT FOLLOWS), and Stephen Lang (AVATAR).

Many of the same team behind 2013's EVIL DEAD are back, including director Fede Alvarez, writers Fede Alvarez & Rodo Sayagues, producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, and executive producers Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake, and J.R. Young. In addition, Fede Alvarez is serving as producer and Erin Westerman and Mathew Hart are executive producers.
