Sofia Boutella Is Up To Star As THE MUMMY For Universal

Following news of actor Tom Cruise's talks to join Universal Pictures's upcoming reboot of The Mummy, THR now has word that actress and dancer Sofia Boutella is now in talks for the title role. Chris Morgan and Sean Daniel set to produce the film with Alex Kurtzman who is set to direct from a script by Jon Sphaits.

The film marks the first of few moves in recent years for Universal Pictures to gather together its slate for a sprawling monster movieverse which will also feature Dracula by way of Evans's role in Dracula Untold (2014), The Invisible Man, Bride Of Frankenstein, Van Helsing and The Wolfman. Boutella, who earned a tremendous start to the year in Kingsman: The Secret Service, can expect to be seen this coming summer in Star Trek: Beyond, with another appearance expected in director David Leitch's new action thriller, The Coldest City, which is currently in production.

The Mummy opens in theaters on March 24, 2017.
