Doug Liman Will Direct GAMBIT Now, And All Is Well In The Universe

It was less than a month ago that Edge Of Tomorrow helmer Doug Liman was reported to be circling Twentieth Century Fox's upcoming Marvel adaptation, Gambit, starring Channing Tatum. This week now, THR reports that Liman is finally well on the way to direct the film ahead of its October release next year.

THR notes this particular film to be familiar territory for Liman in that his own previous films, The Bourne Identity and Mr. And Mrs. Smith, have each been troubled productions before. At any rate however, what's important is that those films been successful, which is not to say by any measure that Edge Of Tomorrow wasn't deserving of the same despite falling short at the box-office, because anyone with sense who has seen it will believe just the opposite. Moreover, it also signals great prospects for the upcoming comic book film since The Gambler helmer Rupert Wyatt came aboard in June and then left two months ago due to a small mix of reasons reported by various sites.

As for any previous mentions in other articles about budget implications affecting the production, we'll see; The film did have a pricey number on it to the tune of $150 million dollars in earlier reports so time will tell if anything else factors in or if that number stays the same. Rest assured, the film has a damn good director and a lead actor who is said to have devoted himself greatly to the character in the last few years.

Tatum is producing as is Reid Carolin, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg with a script by Josh Zetumer, based on the 1990-created X-Men comic book centered on former leader of the Thieves Guild, Remy LeBeau, who has ability to charge most objects with energy, rendering them explosive. Spectre co-star, actress Léa Seydoux will play the title character's love interest, Belladonna Boudreaux.

Liman's most recent completed crime pic, Mena, stars Tom Cruise and will release on January 6, 2017 from Universal Pictures.
