The New Poster Has Arrived For GRUDGE MATCH

On Thursday, Warner Bros. unveiled the new poster for producer/director Peter Segal's upcoming Christmas boxing comedy, Grudge Match, which you can check out below. Several other character posters have made their way online since the first trailer arrived last month. The film stars Sylvester Stallone and Robert DeNiro old boxing rivals who decide to go toe-to-toe one more time in the ring to settle the score once and for all.
Produced by Bill Gerber, Mark Steven Johnson, Michael Ewing and Ravi Mehta, the film also stars Kevin Hart, Alan Arkin, Kim Basinger and Jon Bernthal with a story and screenplay by Tim Kelleher and Rodney Rothman.

Grudge Match will release on December 25, 2013.

Award-winning movie legends Oscar® winner Robert De Niro (“Raging Bull,” “Silver Linings Playbook”) and Oscar® nominee Sylvester Stallone (the “Rocky” films, “The Expendables”) star as old boxing rivals who come out of retirement for one final match. De Niro and Stallone play Billy “The Kid” McDonnen and Henry “Razor” Sharp, two local Pittsburgh fighters whose fierce rivalry put them in the national spotlight. Each had scored a victory against the other during their heyday, but in 1983, on the eve of their decisive third match, Razor suddenly announced his retirement, refusing to explain why but effectively delivering a knock-out punch to both their careers. Thirty years later, boxing promoter Dante Slate Jr., seeing big dollar signs, makes them an offer they can’t refuse: to re-enter the ring and settle the score once and for all. But they may not have to wait that long: on their first encounter in decades, their long-festering feud erupts into an unintentionally hilarious melee that instantly goes viral. The sudden social media frenzy transforms their local grudge match into a must-see HBO event. Now, if they can just survive the training, they may actually live to fight again.

Chozen Dons The Old Uniform In The New Webseries Teaser For AWESOME ASIAN BAD GUYS

The National Film Society's own Stephen Dypianco and Patrick Epino have been hard at work cramming a list of who's-who in Asian American cinema villainy history to appear in a new crowdfunded webseries they have been putting together for well over a year now. And so far, in addition to the help of writer Milton Liu and producer Diana Williams, Dypianco and Epino have been able to do just that for their upcoming inspired new webseries, Awesome Asian Bad Guys.

Consider it a love letter of sorts to classic movies of the 80's and 90's like Big Trouble In Little China, Rambo: First Blood Part II, Die Hard and The Karate Kid: Part 2 as the new webseries brings together some of the most memorable Asian American cinema performers in history. Awesome Asian Bad Guys goes live in 2014 and stars Dypianco and Epino along with actresses Tamlyn Tomita and Jasmine Currey, and actors George Cheung, Dante Basco, Al Leong, Yuji Okumoto, Randall Park and Aaron Takahashi.

Awesome Asian Bad Guys is a kickass action comedy web series about a motley crew of Asian bad guy actors who joins forces to take down LA's most nefarious mobster. The project celebrates these often overlooked icons and transforms them into the heroes of their own new adventure.

Is "KL Gangster 3" Doomed?

Some of you may recall how impressed you were by the awesomeness presented in the trailer for franchise writer and director Syamsul Yusof's explosive, martial arts action-packed Fall gangster thriller, KL Gangster 2. Fanfare around the internet buzzed heavily around the film in the two years before the film's theatrical release as moviegoers around the world who learned of the film's existence hoped to learn more about further distribution of the film beyond its Malaysian borders.

For those concerned, the film took the top spot on its opening weekend, ultimately beating Gravity and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2. But its success came with a lot of worry, particularly Yusof who avoided the press and was reportedly devastated to the point of nearly quitting filmmaking as local police began an investigation looking into several cases of the film's online leak a month before its October 3 release. This evidently left the film's cast and crew wondering about the fate of the franchise, including one of the leads, actor Aaron Aziz who moreso expressed his optimism for a third chapter to the story in an interview posted earlier this month at the Strait Times. "If you ask me, Malek’s story can be developed further." he says. "I think that he is an interesting character and there is a lot more to him than what is told through these two films,”.

The first film, KL Gangster, released in 2011, ultimately becoming a blockbuster success upon earning nearly $4 million from a $500K budget. And with the reported success of this year's prequelized follow-up thusfar despite its budget being four times bigger than its predecessor, and the looming threat of piracy worldwide, a big question mark surrounds the prospects of a third film, and whether or not Yusof decides to helm it.

For now, theater-going patrons across Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei got their money's worth. And although piracy is seems to be a common thing nowadays, it doesn't necessarily mean that nothing can be done about it. Someone has a job to do, and it simply needs to be done. Hell, after what happened with Undisputed 3, I consider us quite lucky. That's just my opinion.

Let's hope for some further release news across the pond.

KL Gangster 2 stars Aaron Aziz, Adi Putra, along with Zizan Raja LawakRidzuan Hashim, Soffi Jikan and Rosyam Nor.

Despite the best efforts of Malek (Aaron Aziz), his younger brother, petty drug dealer Jai (Adi Putra), sinks deeper and deeper into the world of gangland activity and organised crime. When a series of tragedies befall their family, Malek has no choice but to join one of the gangs and plays a pivotal part in an all-out turf war instigated by violent rival gang leader Tailong (Rosyam Nor).

Takeshi Kitano Goes BEYOND OUTRAGE In A New U.S. Red-Band Trailer

Magnet Pictures unveiled the new trailer this week for its forthcoming VoD and limited theatrical release of Japanese filmmaking maestro Takeshi Kitano's Beyond Outrage. Originally titled with both words switched, the film is the second installation of Kitano's Yakuza thriller since the 2010 film, Outrage, hitting the film festival circuit in late 2012 before opening in Japan a month later. Despite garnering mixed reviews, the fan reaction was largely positive with the film's producers seeking a trilogy from Kitano, the franchise's lead star, writer and director who was already the recipient of the Best Director award at the 7th Asian Film Awards by then.

Beyond Outrage also stars Toshiyuki Nishida, Tomokazu Miura, Ryo Kase, Hideo Nakano, Yutaka Matsushige, Fumiyo Kohinata, Katsunori Takahashi, Kenta Kiritani, Hirofumi Arai, Sansei Shiomi, Akira Nakao and Shigeru Koyama. The film goes digital on November 28 before hitting the big screen on the week of January 3 next year.

Happy birthday to me!

With BEYOND OUTRAGE, action cinema master Takeshi Kitano returns to the hard boiled characters, black comedy and unflinching violence of his yakuza saga, OUTRAGE. This time, a manipulative police crackdown on organized crime has ignited a tricky power struggle in the yakuza underworld.
The Sanno crime family has grown into a massive organization dominated by young executives whose new approach to running the family is causing frustration and pent-up resentment with the old-guard members. This vulnerability in the Sanno hierarchy is exactly what anti-gang detective Kataoka has been looking for, as the police force prepares a full-scale crackdown.
Kataoka wants start a war between Sanno and the neighboring Hanabishi crime family in the hopes that they destroy each other. His trump card is Otomo (Kitano) – the rumored-dead boss of a defunct family that was destroyed by the Sanno, who has just been released from prison. Otomo wants to retire from a life of crime, but finds himself drawn back in through Kataoka’s manipulations as the Sanno and Hanabishi clans teeter on the brink of an all-out war.

While we are still awaiting the release of the independent filmmaker Robin Schmidt's shortfilm gangster thriller, Dog, the folks at SG Action are working on a new action shortfilm set for a possible release in a few weeks titled Vendetta. Vendetta is written and directed by Martin Wan, who stars along with actress Freya Thomas, in addition to several key SG members involved in the stunt work, including Chris Jones who can be seen in one of the three posters newly unveiled on Wednesday at the very bottom of this page. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.

'Olympus Has Fallen' Into A Sequel

Actor Gerard Butler will be putting in his time as an Eygptian desert god in Summit Entertainment's upcoming film, Gods Of Eygpt from director Alex Proyas. But this week, we now have some particular movie news many of us probably didn't see coming (I know I didn't!).

If things work out, then it seems Nu Image may get its production going on May 5 of next year for the production of London Has Fallen, which will follow the events of the 2012 film Olympus Has Fallen, where North Korean paratroopers invaded the White House with a hail of bullets, rocket launchers and the threat of nuclear destruction. Screendaily reports the sequel will see Butler producing, as well as reprising his role as a resurrected Secret Service Agent alongside I, Frankenstein star Aaron Eckhart who will play the U.S. President, and Morgan Freeman as the House Speaker, in addition to actresses Angela Bassett returning as the Secret Service Director and Radha Mitchell as the wife of Banning's character.

What's tentatively known about the plot is that it will follow Butler, Eckhart and Bassett will be joining forces with an English MI6 agent to avert terroristic efforts to attack London on the day of the Prime Minister's funeral. The film will be written by Katrin Benedikt and Creighton Rothenberger who provided the script for the first film, in addition to Millenium Films' recently wrapped Patrick Hughes-directed The Expendables 3.

Alan Siegel will also be producing along Mark Gill, Matt O’Toole and Danny Lerner, while Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson and Christine Crow will executive produce for Millenium.

The film did quite well at the box office, and although it took me a while to see it, I finally got down to watching it in recent months and enjoyed what its then-director, Anton Fuqua, gave us. (You can read my Film Of The Week review HERE). London Has Fallen doesn't yet have a director in place, so more details will arrive soon enough.

QUESTION: What did you think of Olympus Has Fallen? And what do you think of the sequel announcement? Post your comments below or on Facebook, Twitter or Google+.

Vin Diesel Shares New Photo With Dwayne Johnson On The Set Of FAST AND FURIOUS 7

Vin Diesel took to Facebook on Tuesday to share a new photo with himself next to actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on the set of the current production of Fast And Furious 7.

Johnson's done a variety of films throughout his career, including action films and family features. And having read an article at The Action Elite where chief editor Eoin Friel pondered if whether or not the best was still to come for the former wrestler-turned-actor whose expectations were set as high in standard as that of the 80's and 90's fanfare of action powerhouse Arnold Schwarzenegger, I figure that with any luck, Johnson may well get that franchise spin-off for his character, D.S.S. Agent Luke Hobbs, which he himself expressed his own hopes for with Empire back in March. His character does carry a lot of potential, with plenty of layers and enough influence to infuse a franchise of its own, if handled properly.

Of course, we do not know yet if this will happen, and no one has said anything so far. My best guess is that Universal is focusing on this third chapter of the Fast And Furious saga before choosing to either bring it to a close, or consider a fourth trilogy. We'll see what happens next, or if Johnson's role as Hercules turns sequel worthy come August 2014.

Johnson will star along with Diesel, Paul Walker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges, Jason Statham, Kurt Russell, Tony Jaa, Djimon Hounsou and John Brotherton for a July 11, 2014 release...

...oh, and the beautiful Ms. Ronda Rousey fresh from the set of The Expendables 3.

HIGHLANDER Reboot Lands A Director

A new announcement this week with reports from Deadline breathed life back into the news of Summit Entertainment film reboot for Russell Mulcahy's 1986 fantasy swordplay action thriller, Highlander. While Snow White And The Huntsman still awaits a sequel, the VFX supervisor and second unit director for the first film, Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, has been granted his first directorial debut here, for the screenplay from Iron Man writers Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, Neal H. Moritz who will be sharing producer credits with the original television and film series producer Peter Davis, and Justin Lin who will executive produce.

Some people still share differing opinions on Hollywood remakes of previous films and other mediums. In my opinion though, this is great news, as Iron Man has been a major success for the Marvel franchise, and Moritz and Lin both share their lineage with Lin's own directorial between the third and sixth installments of the highly successful and popular Fast And Furious franchise. Not to mention with Davis on board, the film is almost sure to set the film off with a fresher vision while retelling the initial story featured in Mulcahy's 1986 film with actor Christopher Lambert.

No casting has been set yet now that Ryan Renyolds has already bowed out. However, James McAvoy, Colin Farrell, Matthew Goode, Sam Worthington, Liam Hemsworth, Jason Momoa and Jeffrey Dean Morgan come to mind as some pretty good choices for the hero and villain. But that's just me. At any rate though, after four movies that eventually led the film franchise into obscurity, this would be a great time to capitalize and help garner some interest from filmgoers. Stay tuned!

QUESTION: Who would you like to see cast in a Highlander reboot? Post your answers in the column below or on Facebook, Twitter or Google+.

Following an Instagram teaser late last week and Monday's live twitter chat with director Bryan Singer, the new trailer arrived on Tuesday for the upcoming July 18, 2014 release of X-Men: Days Of Future Past. The new trailer also comes after viral teaser footage and images were presented over the summer as the film made its promotional run at San Diego Comic Con.

The film stars Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Evan Peters and Boo Boo Stewart.

Watch The Gritty, Hard-Hitting New Trailer For POLICE STORY 2013

This week Chan-atics can finally indulge in the latest new teaser for director Ding Sheng's Police Story 2013. As stated in previous reports, the film will follow actor and Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award winner Jackie Chan in a role suited with a different narrative diverging from prior films of the franchise leading up to New Police Story (2004).

Police Story 2013 was announced in September of 2012, and proceeded filming two months later through February this year before its unveiling at the Beijing International Film Festival. New footage for the film also made its way to the Marche Du Cannes and the Toronto International Film Festival Lightbox, in addition to newly revealed footage shown during Chan's epic North American summer tour reflecting on his career milestones and memories of film past, notably at this year's events at the New York Asian Film Festival.

The film also comes off the limited North American release of his third installent of the Armor Of God franchise, CZ12, and marks a beginning of Chan's latest gradual step toward more diverse roles and away from solid action, with such films including his long-awaited development of Skiptracer from a script by Jay Longino with actor Sean William Scott, actress Fan Bing Bing and director Sam Fell. Chan will also be joining Steven Spielberg and actress Gong Li for The Flowers Of War and Curse Of The Golden Flower helmer Zhang Yimou's return to literature for Return, the big screen adaptation of Geling Yan's 2011 novel, The Criminal Lu Yanshi.

Police Story 2013 also stars Liu Ye, Huang Bo, Jing Tian, Zhang Lanxin, Wang Zhifei, Zhang Xiaoning and Guli Nazha, and is set for Mainland China and Hong Kong release on December 24, 2013.

“Police Story 2013″ follows Jackie Chan’s legendary series “Police Story” and this sixth installment, the film tells the story of one night, at a downtown district bar, all guests were taken hostage. Among them are Interpol, Zhong Wen and daughter Miao Miao. The criminal looks familiar; it is bar owner Wu Jiang whose demand in this hostage situation is the release of a criminal who has been in police custody for a long time. Are things as simple as it looks? What is his true motivation for this desperate action?

Silat Action Drama YASMINE Is Currently In Production

Silat has had a role to play in many martial arts action movies for some time now. But one has to admit that never has the style itself taken up such a huge spotlight than in recent years with international action star Iko Uwais paving the way with the 2009 hit, Merantau, followed by its hybrid use in the urban action thriller, Seruban Maut (a.k.a. The Raid) and its upcoming sequel. On that note, get ready for some more Silat action of a female variety!

On Monday, Twitchfilm forwarded news from a report at The Mail and Guardian last Thursday on the filming of a new martial arts action drama titled Yasmine. The film itself is four years in the making, and is reportedly one of the first few commercial films of its kind in its current location of the sovereign state of Brunei in up to fifty years.

Yasmine is described as a coming-of-age story about a young girl with dreams of becoming a Silat champion. The film brings 20-year old newcomer, actress Liyana Yus to the forefront as the film's lead, who spent the past year getting into her role, training in Silat for up to five hours a day.

The production is led by crew members from several parts such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia, with Hong Kong's own former Jackie Chan Stunt Team member, fight choreographer Chan Man Ching. Yasmine is being directed by Siti Kamaluddin, part owner of Origin Films and Origin Artistic Management with her brother, producer Khairuddin, and will release in 2014.

I'm sort of reminded of director Natasha Arthy's efforts in the 2007 action drama, Fighter, in that both films sound like they compare similarly in nature. But with a different cast and crew for this type of mixed action genre, we could see a few surprises from Kalamuddin and her crew on what lies ahead as Yasmine gets closer to completion. So stick around through next year and follow up on the film's progress by clicking HERE.

Yahoo! Movies delivered the brand new poster and trailer for the upcoming period fantasy action adventure, 47 Ronin from director Carl Rinsch. The film comes off of a production slated that lasted a few years with Universal Pictures studio executives taking over the production toward the latter half of the process and will finally make its way to a North American Christmas Eve release, in addition to a worldwide distribution slate which you can view by clicking here.

47 Ronin Stars Keanu Reeves along with Hiroyuki Sanada, Ko Shibasaki, Rinko Kikuchi and Tadanobu Asano.

Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)—a half-breed they once rejected—as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors.
As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.

'Expendables 3' Producer Teases Part Four

Buzzing around the web as of recent is talk of a fourth installation into The Expendables franchise, courtesy of the latest blurbs from producer Avi Lerner. With the monopoly shared by the Bulgarian press over all things Lerner and 'Expendable'-related, exclusive fan site Expendables Premiere managed to forward the following excerpt (via rough translation):
Mr. Lerner , is it true that " Expendables 3 " will be the largest action in the current history of the genre ?
LERNER: "Absolutely There is so much action , dynamics, fire and killed than in any other in the world. I am extremely pleased by everything that happened here because of the " Expendables 3 ." It was the best - studio teams locations . And the second part made in Bulgaria . And the fourth will probably shoot here ."

The update comes in light of other news that began circulating the internet last week that the seasoned producer sought interest in Cameron Diaz, Milla Jovovich and Meryl Streep for the synonymous all-female reboot, The ExpendaBelles, scripted by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith (Legally Blonde) for which he is also seeking a female director. Deadline reports that a director will need to be found before casting begins, so there is no official word yet on who will participate.

Needless to say, with Lerner throwing The Expendables 4 into the mix, it's safe to say that this new era of bringing back the old school heroes of action cinema won't be over anytime soon. Check back for further updates as the news continues to trickle.

The Expendables 3 has since wrapped and is now in post production for an August 15, 2014 release from Lionsgate. The Patrick Hughes-directed film stars Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture and Terry Crews with Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz, Glen Powell, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Robert Davi and Kelsey Grammer.

TEAM NRG Kicks Into Action With A New Showreel

You may recall back in May that I shared an action packed revenge thriller short film from independent filmmaker Trey "Showtime" Drysdale titled The Enigma, with actor Craig Canning. Well, if the names sound familiar, then you're likely aware of the live-action stage stylings as the dynamic martial arts performance duo, Team NRG.

Based out in the U.K., Team NRG presents an eclectic hybrid array of extreme martial arts, weapons, dance, tricking and fight choreography, which they edit themselves. Their performances are documented in such previous events as the Bodypower Expo, the Open Yorkshire Classics Bodybuilding Show, the Arnold Carnival at Nottingham, and most recently at the 2013 Unity International Games at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

Formerly of the now defunct international demo troupe, Team GBR, Drysdale and Canning came into NRG bringing their own formidable skill sets, with Drysdale, a 3rd degree black belt and eleven year Taekwondo veteran, and Canning, highly trained in styles such as Hapkido, Shotokan and Kickboxing. Together, their main long-term goal now, as it stands, is to continue to expand on their craft and performing as they did on a national and international level while representing GBR and upgrading their techniques and skills in the process, ultimately to entertain and educate the public. And to show you they mean business, they released an electrifying new showreel on Monday, which you can check out below.

And to boot, they have a new Facebook page out this week. So feel free to subscribe while you're here.

Meek U.S. Army soldier Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) takes part in an experimental military program that infuses him with super-human powers, and uses his newfound strength to battle the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) in this comic-book adventure from director Joe Johnston (The Wolfman, The Rocketeer). Tommy Lee Jones, Neal McDonough, and Stanley Tucci co-star in a film written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley (who previously collaborated on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe).

My review here for Captain America: The First Avenger may be a re-visit for most of you FCSyndicate readers out there who have already seen the movie. For me, as it stands, I'm still one more film short before finally catching up to Marvel's second phase in its second cinematic universe leading Thor: The Dark World and the April 4, 2014 release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. So this was as pretty good an opportunity as any before than to see director Joe Johnston's theatrical contribution to the current film franchise.

Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is a half-pint New York native from 1940's Brooklyn with dreams of serving his country, proven only by the five times he has been rejected for the draft due to his size, among other things. But one last night out on the town with his best friend, Bucky, changes everything when a chance meeting with a gifted doctor grants him the opportunity of a lifetime.

After having the good fortune of being selected for the U.S. military's supersoldier program, his newfound physical attributes and gifts are still not enough in the eyes of his superiors in helping America defeat the Third Reich. In the end, Rogers is left with no choice to put his best muscle forward as the hero he was destined to become, and the ultimate threat to an unknown evil far worse than Hitler, with technology more advanced than anyone could expect.

Politics, espionage, tragedy and grave danger awaits Rogers who finds himself in control of great power, and must use it to his greatest advantage in an epic battle between good and superior evil that will set off a chain of events that will truly change the world. But can he do it alone?

I'm pretty familiar with the comic book franchise, although I was never too heavy into comic books. So when it comes to continuity and consistency between graphic novels and films, I'm not the kind to weigh between the two. So I won't get into all the comparisons that some are privy to when discussing comic book movies. What I will say, is that I enjoyed Captain America: The First Avenger as a nice and spectacular lead-in to last year's The Avengers and the other upcoming films. The story provides a nicely crammed origin story that gets the job done at its own pace, not rushing to get our hero in costume just to satisfy our cravings.

On its face, tons of dodgy green screen background CGI mire the film to an extent, taking away certain moments of authenticity. Not to mention, I didn't necessarily think Evans' head needed to be that big on such a small body, although in some scenes it does work-other times it just doesn't, and you can visually tell how weird it looks. But that's just me.

As far as the action goes, I got my fill from it. Captain America doesn't fly, so that leaves him a lot of hurdles to overcome on the battlefield, which is exciting when watching our hero dodging everything from bullets to flamethrowers and evaporating rifle blasts, and putting baddies away with hard-hitting hand to hand exchanges, in addition to using his trusty jingoistic one-of-a-kind shield as both a weapon and a means of self-defense.

Certain characters stood out, obviously, and of course I enjoyed their key roles from our actors, including Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci, and even Hugo Weaving, who I would love to see return as Red Skull, even if he doesn't. And much credit to actress Hayley Atwell who made ComicCon headlines over the summer reprising her role for the Marvel One-Shot, Agent Carter, which could end up with its own TV series in the same vein of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. if it is in the cards.

Bottom line - Captain America: The First Avenger is just a little bit more grounded than some of the other Marvel movies, but delivers nevertheless, reviving a beloved comic book character with a story that promises much more ahead. So, if you haven't seen this movie, then see it and look forward to Captain America: The Winter Soldier when it releases on April 4, 2014.

Captain America: The First Avenger is now available where movies are sold.

Weapons Clash As One Man Makes The Ultimate Sacrifice For Justice In The New LBP Short INTERPRETATION

Saturday night saw the latest online release of a new shortfilm from the folks at LBP Stunts Chicago titled Interpretation. Written, edited, choreographed and directed by independent action filmmaker Emmanuel Manzanares, Interpretation was filmed in early October through last Thursday with LBP member, actor and martial arts performer Nate Hitpas who has been featured in a few other action packed test fight clips in recent weeks in front of the camera, as well as behind it.

Also starring is actor and stuntman Mike Fierro who has also been doing stuntwork for several years, in addition to recently completing work for director Neil Burger's upcoming science fiction action thriller, Divergent alongside Manzanares, who says Fierro has always wanted to try to do a fight of his own. It is with this that Manzanares incorporated an idea he originally had with the opportunity to share a little bit more of what Fierro can do to contribute to LBP's usual flair for high caliber martial arts choreography and urban action. And from the looks of it, I'd say Fierro's got plenty to offer if he continues, how ever which way you choose to...well...interpret it.

Check out the full short film in the embed below where you can also subscribe to the LBP Stunts Chicago official YouTube channel for more riveting and new action-packed content to come.

Yen Gets An English Lead Role For PRIORITY RUN

Wonders never cease with international action star Donnie Yen, coming off the release of his long awaited Hong Kong action thriller, Special ID, into a longer work list of films to come which include the recently wrapped Last Of The Best from director Teddy Chen and the filming of Iceman 3D: Part 2. On Saturday, Twitch brought an exclusive report which included a major announcement from international sales company Arclight Films for a new Yen action vehicle titled Priority Run to be directed by Troy Nixey, which would possibly bring Yen his first lead role in an English action picture since performing smaller roles and coordinating action sequences on films like Highlander: Endgame, Blade 2 and Shanghai Knights. Other cast members are expected to be announced at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, California next month. Check out the synopsis below:
Set to star fast rising action star Donnie Yen in his first English language movie, PRIORITY RUN takes us on highway to hell ride guarding the worst of the worst convicts as they're transported to a maximum security facility. But when the prison transport bus is ambushed on a remote stretch of highway by a sinister organization that appears intent on killing them all  for some mysterious motive, the guards face a nightmare dilemma -- release the most vicious criminals in the state or allow them to be slaughtered. Outnumbered and outgunned, its the most dangerous convict of them all with whom the guards must forge a precarious alliance with if they have any chance of surviving.
I'm probably not alone on this, but I sincerely hope Yen takes the role. After those three films and eventually getting back into the thick of things with Hong Kong and mainland productions S.P.L., Painted Skin, Flash Point, Seven Swords, etc. action fans across the pond awaiting The Expendables 2 were eager to see the actor make his re-appearance with his fellow Once Upon A Time In China 2 and Hero co-star Jet Li, an opportunity which Yen eventually passed.

Of course, Yen still has his own priorities, in addition to tending to the films developing under his own production company Superhero Films, followed by his return to the screen with Michelle Yeoh and legendary fight director Yuen Woo-Ping for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2: The Green Destiny. But if Yen still shares an interest in catering to audiences with a lead English role, this could be the big break he needed-one he likely could have used in 2002. The film sounds like it brings an epic concept based on the synopsis above, with lots of potential based on who will be attached, and aims to bring the same tonality of thrillers like Assault On Precinct 13 and 16 Blocks.

At any rate though, we will eventually  learn more about this film in time. Let's just hope it isn't too late.

Yen will be out with Iceman 3D: Part 1 and The Monkey King 3D in early 2014. Stay tuned for more info!

Well, of you have not yet seen the magic currently known as the cult-classic hit Leon: The Professional, chances are you will be blown away for what comes next in Besson's upcoming French action suspense thriller, 22 Bullets.

The film has existed for several years now, hitting cinemas throughout Europe, but today we are finally granted an English-language trailer for the film, which will release in select theaters on November 8, 2013 in North America. 22 Bullets stars Reno along with Kad Merad, Jean-Pierre Darroussin, Marina Fois, and Joey Starr. Kevin Tancharoen Retires From MORTAL KOMBAT

Writer and director Kevin Tancharoen (left) with actor Ian Anthony Dale on the set of Mortal Kombat Legacy (2011)
April Fools' Day is long gone for the remainder of its following year. So, one may be baffled by Kevin Tancharoen's latest announcement on Twitter on Friday night, stating he would be parting ways with Mortal Kombat, ending his role with the franchise as the writer and director of the pending film and two previous webseries seasons for Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.

The announcement comes just a month off the release of the second season of Mortal Kombat Legacy with talk of a third season and a film that has since been reported to be actively developing. Progress on the film itself has been long-awaited since another movie was in the works nearly a decade ago to be shot on-location in Louisiana following the first two films from New Line Cinema, only to be shelved again due to Hurricane Katrina.

Hopes arose once more with the production of the Glee: 3D director's seven-and-a-half minute 2010 fan film trailer, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, depicting seven of the famous characters from the successful franchise with Michael Jai White, Ian Anthony Dale, Richard Dorton, Matt Mullins, Lateef Crowder, Jeri Ryan and James Lew. Rebirth eventually led to the production of the hit webseries, Mortal Kombat Legacy, which aired in the Spring of 2011, followed by Mortal Kombat Legacy 2 back in September.

Aside from a few previous reports on the budget, in addition to writer Oren Uziel providing the script for the film with Tancharoen, this leaves a lot in the air for fans who have been waiting for well over a decade and a half for a director hungry enough to help revive the first cinematic reboot for Mortal Kombat.

Looks like we are going to have to wait a little bit more. Good luck Kevin. You gave us plenty. Be proud, be well on your endeavors, and don't be a stranger.

Hong Kong Gets A New Poster For SNOWPIERCER

Comic Book Movie forwarded the latest international poster for the upcoming sci-fi action thriller, Snowpiercer. The poster comes just several weeks after the Hong Kong distributor Golden Scene made public their release date for the film from director Bong Joon-ho. Bong, coming off of a recent dual interview he did along with Quentin Tarantino at the Busan International Film Festival earlier this month, was recently reported to be "furious" over the apparent 20 minutes of cuts from the film for North America and other English-speaking territories against his wishes, as it languishes in distribution hell under The Weinstein Company until a release date gets announced.

Based on a screenplay by Bong and co-writer Kelly Masterson, Snowpiercer is the live-action adaptation of the French graphic novel, "Le Transperceniege" by Benjamin Legrand and Jacques Lob. Set in the year 2035, a failed attempt to stave off global warming has left Earth covered in extreme cold and snow, forcing remaining survivors on a motion engine-powered mega train that circumnavigates the earth year-round. Ultimately, with a class system dividing the rich and wealthy from the poor passengers in the back of the train, a revolution ensues.

Snowpiercer premiered in South Korea earlier back in August with rave reviews prior to its upcoming theatrical release in France on October 30, 2013, as well as its Hong Kong release on November 28, 2013. The film stars Chris Evans who just appeared in this week's first trailer for his return to the big screen next year as the titular role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Also starring in Snowpiercer are Sung Kang-ho, Jamie BellEwen Bremmer, Allison PillTilda SwintonOctavia SpencerKo A-sung, John Hurt and Ed Harris

Come Get Your Kicks At The URBAN ACTION SHOWCASE With Actor, Screenfighting Expert, JOHN NGUYEN

This week I met YouTube personality, actor, screenfighter and online action cinema tutor John Nguyen. He may be just a few years in, but his work has already gained attention from a lot of people, especially the organizers of the star-studded Urban Action Showcase next month here in New York City (only another event I have to miss because of work *cries on the inside*).

I've seen a few of Nguyen's videos, and I personally  think they're quite informative in making the best possible tool for anyone looking to learn how to choreograph, execute and direct a good screenfight, helping pave the way for other instructors and aspiring actors and filmmakers. And with Nguyen set to make his appearance in New York soon, he and I took the time to share a Facebook chat with each other about, among a few other thingst his own experiences, what drew him as a screenfighting tutor and what fans can expect from his upcoming workshop.

Film Combat Syndicate: First off, how did you get into screenfighting?
John Nguyen:
I've lived in LA and the bay area all my life and like a lot of Chinese kids I grew up on Jackie Chan. I started off in the mainstream with Hollywood, hustling for the agents and auditions and stuff. Came to realize I'm mostly here for the art and not the business so when the digital indie revolution came about (while I was in pharm school), I saw that it's really doable now. Some unforeseen life interrupting events came up and I just left  my job up in SF and moved back home to LA. I'm taking it as a sign and opportunity to really invest myself into the passion again.
FCSyndicate: How long have you been doing it now?
JN: My martial arts background is pretty varied and convoluted now, as it is with a lot of guys in this field, I guess. Started off in modern wushu while at college, afterwards I saw that I needed to keep an open mind and expand into the other arts like TKD, Karate, the MMA staples, Tai Chi and others. Soon as I graduated I saw my friends back in LA were starting to make it in the stunt field. Pure stunt isn't really what I'm after, but it gave a lot of hope that it's not just some childhood pipe dream. I started off with bit roles in front of the camera and realized no one in mainstream filmmaking knows anything about good action so I went behind the camera and picked up all the hats. Guess it's been about ten years now. Too off and on, especially with pharm school in between that really took its toll. Just finished that so now I can put energy back into this with a solid financial base.
FCSyndicate: So this is what led you to do online screenfighting tutorials?
JN: Oh, no. That was just to keep moving and not stop and drown. My final goal is still ofcourse mainstream distribution type work. But I decided not to hustle for bit roles that DON'T expand my skillset (primarily acting). But that's always a slow thing going and especially while I was up in SF in school I wanted to just keep doing SOMETHING and tried out a niche I hadn't seen yet online. Particularly something I personally wanted when I was starting off and wouldn’t have had to spend so much time rediscovering things by myself that were already being used on HK sets. Then it just turned out to be kind of fun and a stress reliever. It also strengthened my friendship with Jeff (Lee) and we've been doing other business-type projects outside of it now. Recently the tutorial show's been getting me some contacts and offers so it's kind of opened up my eyes to great utility of it as a presence creator. Plus, it's just FUN, haha.
FCSyndicate: So how did you get tangled with the urban action showcase? And what can attendees expect?
JN: Demetrius (Angelo), the organizer and a really cool guy, contacted me through the channel and we talked it out. It originally started out as a possible pure choreography workshop but then Jeff Imada confirmed his attendance so they switched me to the filming aspect, which is still cool and sounds fun. I'm learning a lot more about reaching out and trying to spread the word on things, now, too, something I never really tried to do, haha.
As for the workshop, we're pulling in directing, DPing (directing photography), stuntwork, EXECUTION of choreo (something I don't think I see emphasized enough), editing and others. It's really going to be geared towards the filmmaker who wants to work with stuntfighters but also for stuntfighters who want to learn the production side on the indie level. I also think a lot of established directors could learn a lot from it, too. I'm trying hard to emphasize the dramatic performance within the fight in a down to earth way, so that could be really useful for filmmakers who entered the field from the traditional route rather than the grassroots stuntfighter route. I hope to help them start seeing the fight break down into beats and evolutions and no longer just a blur of violence in front of their eyes.
FCSyndicate: Excellent! I'm very pleased to see such interest taken into the technical aspects of action. Is there a director you can think of who you might want to work with one day who you feel might benefit from you views? It can be more than one.
JN: Right off the top of my head Christopher Nolan would be one. I LOVE that he emphasizes practical production over VFX even for giant set pieces that sound impossible. The fact that he sacrifices elaborate cinematography and avoids ADR for the sake of bringing out the best natural performances from his actors just tells me that this man knows exactly what his own priorities are.
So working with him on bringing that same level of depth to action sequences to blend into the narrative would be exceptionally rewarding.
