Updates On Police Story 2013

In a recent interview with Kung Fu Magazine, writer Gene Ching had the opportunity to speak to TV/film actor, martial artist and Jackie Chan's own disciple, Jack Tu, about the latest with Jackie Chan's upcoming film, Police Story 2013:

GC: "Why don't you catch our readers up on the film and television projects you've been doing lately."

JT: "Ah, the film I just finished is Jackie Chan's Police Story 2013. In that story, there's not a lot of fighting action. There's lots of shooting, police and military involved in this."

GC: "Now this is not a sequel to the original Police Story franchises. It's a whole new thing, right?"

JT: "It's a lot different than the old one because this one takes place in Beijing in winter. All the cops and all the police are China policemen. It's kind of unique. It's fun because they used the real cops and special forces. All the policemen, special forces and firefighters are all real policemen, special forces and firefighters. I'm one of them, but I play a sniper. My character was fun. At the end, I go in and save him. The story, well, I can't really tell the story. They keep it secret. But it's different. This is about a father and a daughter. And it's about family. It's about the dad going to this club and saving his daughter, and involving a whole gang and police."

Back in September, China Vision Media Group announced Jackie Chan would began filming Police Story 2013 in November. Time has since passed, with Chan beginning post production in February, which was a surprise to a lot of people since not much was said about the film since late last year, except for a questionable teaser poster courtesy of Twitchfilm, followed by an official advanced poster courtesy of director Ding Sheng.

Last month, few details started trickling in about what in store for the new indirect follow up to Jackie Chan's successful Police Story franchise. Impact Online's own Mike Leeder shared a new still photo of Chan with a new haircut for the unique role. Jackie Chan also went on his Weibo blog to express his own thoughts about the character he is playing unlike in his previous Police Story films:

“I’ve played policemen many times before, but I’ve never shot a film which focused on the life of a mainland policeman. So this time, I get the chance to fulfill this kind of role,”
.

The film is reportedly also said to include, among other things, heavy-handed drama throughout the film, in addition to a cage fighting sequence with an MMA pro-fighter, which is ironic considering back in 2010, the master filmmaker voiced his stance against it. I guess with the success of films like the Wilson Yip film, Flash Point and the upcoming Dante Lam actioner, MMA, it was a matter of time before Chan would choose to apply his creativity in the film when it comes to the sport.

So far, Police Story 2013 cast details also suggest Chan and Tu will be joined by actors Huang Bo (Legend Of The Fist: The Return Of Chen Zhen), Liu Yue (Curse Of The Golden Flower) and Jing Tian who will also be appearing in the upcoming Clarence Fok film, Special Identity.

Stay tuned for further developments.
